Specify the case metal, reference and case size rather than describing the watch simply as a gold Rolex. Different Day-Date generations and precious-metal configurations need separate comparisons. Include photographs of the case and clasp markings without opening the watch.

The more information you can share about your watch, the easier it is for us to provide an informed assessment of your watch.

Day-Date metal, dial and President bracelet

The Day-Date 40 reference 228236 is a platinum configuration. Other sizes and precious metals need separate comparisons. Day-display language, hour markers and bezel setting can further distinguish watches within the collection.

Include the President bracelet, clasp and spare links in photographs. Describe bracelet wear and previous polishing. Disclose added diamonds or replacement parts and provide records of work to the day and date mechanisms.

President bracelet and completeness

Bracelet wear, stretch, clasp condition and missing links can be important in the assessment. Include the available spare links and approximate wrist fit. If the watch is on a strap or a different bracelet, tell us what is original and what has been changed.

For your Rolex Day-Date, send clear daylight photographs of the complete watch and close-ups of the relevant features. Include marks or damage rather than cropping them out. We compare the stated specification with the photographs and inspect the watch before confirming the offer. A reference identifies a version, but does not establish its condition or authenticity on its own.

Originality and condition of your Day-Date

Photograph the dial, day display and date clearly, and disclose any service dial, restoration or aftermarket gem-setting. Tell us whether the calendar changes and the watch runs correctly. We do not authenticate a rare dial configuration from a nickname alone.

Explain any known polishing, restoration or replacement components on your Rolex Day-Date. Ordinary wear, a repaired part and an aftermarket modification are different considerations. There is no need to arrange cosmetic work simply to request a quote. Tell us about faults and servicing so the assessment reflects the watch in its present condition.

Selling a Day-Date with or without papers

Gather the box, warranty card or papers, purchase receipt, service invoices and spare links belonging to your Rolex Day-Date. Explain what is missing and whether a box was acquired separately. A service date and a purchase date are different from a production year. If you are unsure of the year, say so rather than treating an estimate as confirmed.

You can enquire without a complete set. Photographs and the information you have allow us to discuss the next step, with acceptance subject to verification. Keep the full serial number out of public posts and do not open the case yourself to find it. Your specialist can explain what identification is needed for the valuation and sale.
